Master class for children

On 24 November, Sergey Stakhovsky, winner of "St. Petersburg Open 2009" and leader of the national Ukrainian tennis team in the Davis Cup, gave a master class for children in Kharkov “Sport&Court” Tennis Club (12 Dmitriyevsky Str), at the invitation of Ukrainian Tennis Federation Adviser, Ukrainian Women’s Tennis Team Sponsor, Kharkov Philanthropist Yuri Sapronov.

The class started with warm-up exercises. After that, the children were divided into 2 groups, and each of them parried Stakhovsky’s shots until there was a winner in each group.

Kiev tennis player’s master class was attended by around 30 children aged 5-11 from various sports schools, such as Kharkov’s “Sport&Court”, “Unicourt”, “Park”, “Pioner” and “Dinamo”, and Kiev’s “Olymp”. After the class all the children had a chance to talk to S. Stakhovsky and ask him questions.

“Today we’ve had to run around and sweat quite a bit. I’m glad that I’ve been able to diversify the Bondarenko sisters’ master classes in Kharkov by adding a masculine touch to them. This is one of my first master classes in Ukraine. I’m pleased that I’ve managed to come here and play with the kids. I’ve done quite a lot of running here, you can’t run that much with, for example, Croatian tennis player Ivo Karlovic”, S. Stakhovsky noted.

“It was nice to have S. Stakhovsky here, in Kharkov. This sportsman is very self-demanding. He’s enjoyed a brilliant success at the end of the 2009 season. Sergey reminds me of a sprinter who is about to cross the finishing line. Even though he hasn’t added anything new to his style, he’s gained incredible self-confidence”, Y. Kapronov pointed out.
